Home Made Beans

Kay and I are spending a couple of months in Fullerton, CA to get out of the rain in WA and spend some time with Kay’s family.  One of our goals while we are here is to get more creative with our cooking.

In years gone by I’ve had some success with cooking beans, mostly Boston Baked Beans type of recipes, but have eaten our other beans mostly from the can.  I love beans, and want to become accomplished at cooking dry beans myself.

So far on this trip I’m 1-for-1 in attempts.  I cooked some pinto beans and if a first try is any indicator it’s both really easy and they are great.  I started with a recipe from my All-recipes iPhone app called Evana’s Pinto Beans and even though I didn’t have the cilantro the recipe called for I found it really easy to make, and pretty darn good.  It also made a huge pot of beans that Kay and I have used as the base of several meals.

Home made beans are going to be a staple in my healthy tasty vegan meal plans.  I’ll upload a photo next time I make beans, hopefully tomorrow.
